Bedtime Anxiety

IMG_1173Many children suffer anxiety about bedtime. According to the National Sleep Foundation in the US, "Night time fears and nightmares are extremely common in children, especially during the preschool years, but they can definitely occur in older children and adolescents as well. They are part of normal development."

The Sleep Foundation's website offers a long list of tips for helping with sleep anxiety, including techniques to try, what to avoid, and security objects: "Especially with younger children, a security object such as a favorite stuffed animal or a blanket can help a child feel relaxed and safe in bed."

Check out this article from the Sleep Foundation: http://www.sleepfoundation.org/article/ask-the-expert/children-and-bedtime-fears-and-nightmares.

Sweet dreams!
